Charger Parent Information
Looking Backward
Have you found a stray library book? Please return it to the high school! There will be a paper bag labelled "Library Book Return" at the front door of the high school. We are no longer charging late fees or fines, but there would be a charge if we must replace a lost book. If your child cannot find a book checked out from the Charger Library, you can purchase a copy of the book and submit that to replace the lost copy. Our goal is to keep our collection full of good books for all students to read.
Looking Forward
During this time of rapidly evolving scenarios and sudden changes, you may have questions about the library's role in your child's academic and personal learning plan. Please be assured the Charger Library will be open and operating, albeit in a different capacity than usual. Students can access the catalog of our physical collection at destiny.mcps.k12.va.us and use their username (usually lastnamefirstname--the part of their school email before the @) and password of student number (lunch number). Email the librarian at [email protected] or fill out this Google form to request a book, and pick it up at the school, usually the next day. There will be a holding period of 14 days from when books are turned in to when they are re-shelved, to prevent any potential spread of COVID-19. E-books, which can be checked out through SORA will provide your child with a contact-free way to read a wide variety of books. Your student should use their Google credentials to enter SORA. At this point, we are unable to hosts visitors or volunteers, but when restrictions are lifted, it is my hope that you will come take a look at all the library has to offer your student. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Pedersen at [email protected] or call (804) 758-2312 extension 2228.
We also accept donations of books! If any donated books do not make it onto our shelves, we will hold and sell them at our annual book sale fundraiser.
